Eve's Song

Alice Bishop (Soprano)

and

Simon Marlow (Piano)

Music by female composers - Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann, Alma Mahler, Amy Beach, Rebecca Clarke and Madeleine Dring.

Women have had a tough time composing and getting music published.  Fanny Mendelssohn had to publish her work under her brother's name.   Alma Mahler and Clara Schumann were both told not to compose by their more famous husbands - Gustav and Robert. Amy Beach was a child prodigy pianist who had to give up her career when she married.  Rebecca Clarke sometimes presented her work under a pseudonym.  But working on this repertoire is proving delightful - their songs are superb: tuneful, expressive, characterful and colourful.
